12 Gb/s SAS drives are unsurprisingly capable of 12Gbp/s of through put. They can also reach IOPs of between 200,000 to 400,000. The drives are built for performance, availability and reliability.
12Gb/s SAS is not the cheapest option available, however the benefits generated by its impressive levels of performance offset the price.
SAS is a much better fit for servers, especially in comparison with SATA. 12Gb/s SAS features a major speed boost over SATA. Wherever speed and availability are vital, 12Gb/s SAS is the ideal option. This is especially important for enterprise computing.
SAS is bidirectional. This means that unlike SATA, it is capable of reading and writing at the same time. This allows for more speed and higher reliability, making 12Gb/s SAS great for business-class applications.
12Gb/s SAS can go up to 1.6M hours between failures at 45C and being run 24/7.
